The Hitters
Willie Stargell and his big bat have the top seed in this season and find themselves facing formidable challengers including Matt Holliday, Hall-of-Famers Minnie Minoso, George Brett, and Luke Appling, plus Roy Sievers, Stan Hack, and Joe Kuhel. When the dust settles, only four are assured of moving on to Round 7.

The Results

As my old coach told me, “You can’t win games without hitters” and the big home run hitters proved the point this season. Willie Stargell continued his roll through the tournament, taking another first place, with the surprising Minnie Minoso finishing a respectable second. Sievers and Holliday will join them in Round 7. The others try again in Round 6.
