Although he was a solid player during his career, Jeff Heath has had a surprising run thus far in the tournament. He’s the top seed this season and will face future and current Hall-of-Famers Miguel Cabrera, Freddie Lindstrom, and King Kelly, as well as Sam Mertes, couldabeen Tony Conigliaro, Mike Smith, and Derrek Lee. The top four move on automatically to Round 7.

The Results

Jeff Heath continued to command respect, once again topping 100 victories on the campaign and keeping a healthy margin on second place Miguel Cabrera. King Kelly finished a close third as Freddie Lindstrom squeaked into fourth. Mertes missed a tie for fourth, losing on the season’s final day. He heads to Round 6 in the company of Derrek Lee, Tony C, and Elmer (Mike) Smith.

Season Highlights

  • The Cabrera team led in batting average with Cabrera9 topping the league with a .320 average.
  • Heath8 and Conigliaro8 tied atop the league with 36 home runs.
  • Cabrera2 had a 3-HR game.
  • Lee99 had a 7-RBI game.

    No-Hitters

    4/13 Red Faber3 of the Jeff Heath team blanked Tony Conigliaro.
    5/ 8 Walter Johnson2 – While the Lindstrom team was pounding out 23 hits and scoring 14 runs, Walter Johnson was no-hitting Sam Mertes. It must have been a long day in the Mertes dugout.

Tim Bruno

Tim has been a baseball fan for most of his life and has played a great deal of baseball and softball over the years.
