The Hitters
We have a nice mix of eras this season, with Lou Gehrig as the big swinger. He may prove to be an insurmountable challenge for the other hitters, but Larry Walker has steadily improved his victory totals each round, so who knows? Also making a play to continue in the tournament are fellow HOFers Joe Morgan and Roberto Alomar, along with George Van Haltren, Roger Maris, Augie Galan, and Jake Daubert.
The top 4 finishers – ties included – and those who finish above .500 for the 154-game season, move on automatically to Round 9. The others will have a “last chance” in the Round 8 elimination round.

The Results
Showing that he is not to be dismissed as Babe Ruth‘s clean-up hitter in this tournament, Lou Gehrig reigned this season, nearly equalling The Babe’s totals from Season 1. Joe Morgan won on the season’s final day and, coupled with a Larry Walker loss, snagged second place. George Van Haltren managed a fourth-place finish to round out the qualifiers for Round 9, while Maris, Alomar, Galan, and Daubert try again in Round 8.
Season Highlights
- Lou Gehrig led all teams with a .302 average, with Gehrig5 at the top of the league with a .332 average. Gehrigs took 6 of the top 8 slots, with Jake Daubert4 placing third with .313.
- Gehrigs also took the top 9 slots in the home run race. Gehrig99 and Gehrig8 tied with 56 taters, Gehrig and Gehrig3 with 55.
- Joe Morgan3 led the league with 103 bases on balls and in stolen bases with 64; a potent combination that allowed for his second-place team record.
- There was the expected top-flight pitching from Pete Alexanders throughout the league, but Red Donohue5 of the Gehrig team made the most of the ample run support, going an astounding 17-0 despite a 4.17 ERA.
- Gehrig, Gehrig8, and Gehrig9 all had a 3-Homerun game, as did Roger Maris4, although he did his in a 12-inning game.
