Round 6 Season 7

Maury Wills-Featured-Card for Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

Zero Hall-of-Famers in this season as Maury Wills is one of eight that make their case to continue on in Baseball’s Greatest Player Playoff. He is joined by couldabeen star Tony Conigliaro, Ed Konetchy, Bernie Williams, and Jake Daubert. Wills isn’t the only speedster this season, as Vince Coleman will also test the catchers’ arms, along with middle infielders Lou Whitaker and Chuck Knoblauch. 154 games from now, we will know the tale.

The Results

A bit more offense this season as we saw a bump in the league batting average. It was a tight race all the way with Ed Konetchy finding his way to the top of the standings. Lou Whitaker, Chuck Knoblauch, Bernie Williams, and Jake Daubert all managed a +.500 record and will be moving on to Round 7. Unidimensional talent did not win out as speedsters Maury Wills and Vince Coleman and power hitter Tony C did not make the cut.

Season Highlights

  • Daubert6 led the hitters with a respectable .325 average.
  • Conigliaro2 led in home runs with 34.
  • Ouch! Tony C3 led in HBP with 9.
  • Wills3 led with 114 stolen bases. Another Wills topped a hundred as did two different Colemans.
  • Christy Mathewson7, pitching for Vince Coleman had 8 shutouts.
  • Colemand7 had a 7-steal game
