Round 6 Season 4

Roger Bresnahan-Featured-Card for Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

Hall of Famer Roger Bresnahan has the top seed in this elimination season, and it will take more than a pair of shin guards to make it through. Also in the mix are Rip Radcliff, Dave “The Cobra” Parker, Paul O’Neill, J.D. Martinez, Robin Yount, Jay Buhner, and Magglio Ordonez. All it takes to move on to Round 7 is a .500 record. Who will make it and who will go home? 154 games will decide.

The Results

There was not a great deal of offense this season – Dave Parker5 led the league with 78 RBIs – and it was a close race with Paul O’Neill grabbing the pennant, helped in no small measure by his 15-3 record in extra-inning games. Magglio Ordonez, Robin Yount, Dave Parker, and Roger Bresnahan all managed to finish above .500, and so will be moving on to Round 7. J.D. Martinez was on track to make it but faltered down the stretch. He, Rip Radcliff, and Jay Buhner are on their way home.

Season Highlights

  • Oof: A .243 league batting average… Rip Radcliff6 and Dave Parker7 tied for the league lead with a paltry .286.
  • Buhner7 led individual batters with 36 home runs and was the only hitter with more than 30.
  • Christy Mathewson5 had 8 shutouts among his 27 complete games.
  • No automatic runners in this project! Robin Yount defeated Magglio Ordonez, 4-3 in a 23 inning marathon.
  • Jay Buhner4 had a 3-HR game.
  • Ordonez9 had a grand slam, a double, and single, good for an 8-RBI game.
  • Christy Mathewson of the Dave Parker squad struck out 17 Jay Buhners.
