Round 6 Season 16

Bobby Veach-Featured-Card for Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

Baseball Pioneer Charley Jones is sitting in the top spot for this season and will face players of a much more recent vintage. Bobby Veach and Hall-of-Famer Max Carey played in the 1910s and 20s, Earl Torgeson in the post WWII-era, Greg Luzinski in the 1970s and early 80s, Chili Davis in the 80s and 90s, David Justice in the 90s and the recently (?!) retired Jacoby Ellsbury. Let’s see how they fare against the superb pitching we’ve been seeing from the Round 6 pitchers. All it takes is a .500 record to move on to Round 7.

The Results

In Round 5 S46, Charley Jones won 17 more games than David Justice. This season, Justice rebounded with a consistently good performance to take the first place flag. Jones had to settle for a second place tie with Bobby Veach. Earl Torgeson bounced back from a terrible June to rack up a 22-9 record in July and then hung in to keep his head above water. They will all see action in Round 7. Greg Luzinski went 4-13 in extra inning games, and despite a positive run differential, that proved to be the difference for him. He and Max Carey, Chili Davis, and Jacoby Ellsbury have ended their stay in the playoff.
