Round 5 Season 49

Jesse-Burkett-Featured-Card for Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

As we head into the final season of Round 5, Hall-of-Famer Jesse Burkett is the top seed. Fellow HOFers Harry Heilmann and Gabby Hartnett must contend with the short career of Dave Orr, Dale Mitchell, and modern stars: the sadly, oft-injured Eric Davis, Sweet Lou Whitaker, and Steve Sax, who is coming off a nice rebound in Round 5 after a disastrous Round 3. The last four automatic slots for Round 7 are up for grabs.

The Results

In the closest season thus far, Jesse Burkett won his last two games as both Eric Davis and Harry Heilmann dropped theirs, allowing Burkett to squeeze into first place. Dave Orr also won his last two to finish fourth, just two games off the pace. Gabby Hartnett also managed a .500 record and will be making the trip to Round 7. Whitaker, Mitchell, and Sax are set to try their luck in Round 6.
