The Hitters

Jason Giambi crashed out in Round 1 but worked himself into the top seed this season in Round 5. He’ll face the challenge of his contemporaries, Brian Giles, David Justice, and Christian Yelich, and stars of days gone by Joe Judge, Luke Easter, and Joe Vosmik. There’s even Charley Jones, who got his start way back in the National Association. The top four finishers move on to Round 7.

The Results

Brian Giles rode a 25-6 May all the way to the winner’s circle. Despite losing eight of his last ten games, his lead was insurmountable. Both Christian Yelich and Luke Easter finished strong to scoot ahead of Jason Giambi. Joe Judge also pushed through to the end, winning on the last day of the season to climb to .500 and gain a spot in Round 7. Vosmik, Jones, and Justice will have to try again in Round 6.

Season Highlights

  • Although league averages were not high – just .258 – Yelich5 topped the individuals with .307.
  • Luke Easter did not embarrass himself, smacking 295 home runs. Easter4 led individual batters with 41.
  • Walter Johnson5 finished 25 of his 39 starts for the Joe Judge team.
  • Luke Easter1 took the horse collar, striking out 5 times in one game, but in another game, he managed 3 home runs.
  • Easter6, Giambi3, Giambi99, and Joe Judge9 also had 3-HR games. Giambi99 and Judge9 accounted for 7 RBIs in their games.
  • Jones6, Justice8, and Luke Easter also had 7-RBI games.
