Hall-of-Famer Jeff Bagwell looks to extend his winning ways as he faces two of the all-time greats in George Sisler and Cap Anson here in Round 5. Also in the mix are stars of the 60s and 70s Vada Pinson, Ken Griffey, and the underrated Gene Tenace. The recently retired Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki are thrown in for good measure. The top 4 get the express ticket to Round 7.

The Results

Jeff Bagwell played consistent ball to finish first, while a three-way race for second resulted in Cap Anson sweeping the final two-game series from George Sisler to nail it down, Troy Tulowitzki fell apart, losing his last six games to drop all the way to fourth place. Carlos Gonzalez picked up a victory on the final day of the season to bring his record to an even .500 and secure a bonus slot in Round 7. The others head to Round 6.

Season Highlights

  • George Sisler led the teams in hitting, knocking at a .301 clip. Cap Anson6 led the individual batters with .323.
  • Carlos Gonzalez3 and Gene Tenace9 tied for the league lead in homers with 30.
  • Three different Tenaces waited out over 100 bases on balls, and Tenaces took nine of the top ten strikeout slots.
  • George Sisler had a 21-game hitting streak.
  • Gene Tenace had a 3-HR game.
  • Gonzalez9 had a spectacular day at the plate, going 4 for 5 and driving in 8 runs. He tripled, clearing the bases in the 3rd inning, laced a one-base hit in the 4th inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning, and smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 7th inning.  
  • Tenace4 had a 7-RBI game.
