Round 5 Season 42

Ed Swartwood-Featured-Card Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

The game of the 1880’s was different: No overhand pitches, the pitcher was 50 feet away from home plate, various numbers of balls resulted in a walk (up to 9)… heck, a bat could even be flat on one side. Ed Swartwood and George Wood will see how they match up to more modern players such as Bernie Williams and Hall-of-Famers Billy Williams and Paul Molitor, as well as Sherry Magee, Del Ennis, and Danny Murphy. It will take a top 4 finish or .500 record to skip on ahead to Round 7.

Del Ennis took fourth by a comfortable margin over Paul Molitor. Molitor, Murphy, Bernie Williams, and George Wood couldn’t cut the mustard and so will have to try their luck in Round 6.
