The Results

Tommy Henrich came out of the gate strong, but there was really never any doubt as Jimmy Foxx pulled ahead in May and never looked back. A hot August allowed Orlando Cepeda to pass Paul Goldschmidt for third place. Manny Ramirez had a hard time getting going and almost made it to .500 by the season’s end. Alas, he, along with Pierre, Ryan, and Sheckard will be headed to Round 6 while the others advance directly to Round 7.

Season Highlights

  • The Jimmy Foxx team led in batting average and home runs with Foxx9 leading all individuals with a .308 average and Foxx7 and Foxx3 each hitting 52 homers. Two other Foxxes smacked at least 50 round-trippers, as well.
  • Juan Pierre3 led in stolen bases with 126, followed closely by Pierre8 with 122. Pierre9 had 99 SBs to go along with a 25-game hitting streak.
  • Walter Johnson3 of the Juan Pierre squad struck out 313 batters, helped in no doubt by Jimmy Foxx3’s 193 Ks!
  • In an early April game, Jimmy Foxx beat up Tommy Henrich 25-4 on 23 hits. The day before, Orlando Cepeda put the hurt on Juan Pierre 21-2 on 24 hits. Cepeda 3 went 6 for 7, popping out to end the game and missing a chance to go 7 for 7.
  • In the Foxx-Henrich game, Foxx3 had two 3-run homers plus a bases loaded triple for 9 RBIs.
  • Henrich3 had a 3 homer game. Foxx7 had two 3-HR games AND a 4-HR game.
  • Walter Johnson5, pitching for Cepeda, struck out 17 Jimmy Foxxes.
  • No-Hitters

4/14 Walter Johnson4 of the Manny Ramirez team no-hit Jimmy Sheckard
