The Hitters
Bug Holliday has the top seed in this season that doesn’t have any of the likely quarter finalists. Good, and even great players, including several Hall-of-Famers from the mid-20th-Century, but no one who is likely to be in the top 32. In any case, George Selkirk, Bobby Doerr, Sam Rice, Dixie Walker, Roberto Clemente, Pat Duncan, and Willie Davis will make an effort to secure Round 7 status. Top 4 move on.

The Results

I’m going to be blunt here: I do not know how George Selkirk did it. Second place Roberto Clemente hit a decent number of home runs and out averaged him by 37 points. I thought it must have been the walks, but Selkirk’s OBP was only 9 points higher than Clemente’s. I guess the dice were just going his way this season. Bug Holliday and Sam Rice also managed a plus-.500 record and finished in the top four to advance to Round 7. Duncan, Doerr, Walker, and Davis head to Round 6.

Season Highlights
- Clemente4 led the batters with a respectable .328 average.
- Selkirk7 was the top power hitter with a meager 29 homers.
- Selkirk7 also had two 6-RBI games within a span of a week.
