Round 5 Season 33

Jack Fournier Featured Card for Baseball's Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

Round 5 Season 33 is made up of hitters who have thus far performed unevenly or underperformed in the tournament. I think all bets are off! Jack Fournier is the top seed on the strength of his 101 victories in Round 3 but he will certainly have his work cut out for him. Bobby Bonds, who hit homers and stole bases before it was cool, speedy Jose Reyes and Bob Dillinger (Fun Fact: Jack Fournier signed him to his first professional contract), power hitters Frank Thomas and Roger Maris, and old-timers Buck Ewing and Hughie Jennings all stand in his way. Top 4 move on.

The Results

Consistency won the day for Frank Thomas as he held off a late challenge from Bobby Bonds to snag first place. Buck Ewing outlasted Jack Fournier and a charging Roger Maris to hold on to third place, Maris finishing above .500 for a bonus slot in Round 7. Dillinger seemed to give up once he realized he couldn’t finish above .500, losing his last 8 games. He will be joined by Jennings and Reyes in Round 6.
