Round 5 Season 1

Babe Ruth Featured-Card for Baseballs Greatest Player Playoff

The Hitters

Babe Ruth leads the way in a season that features 3 ex-Yankees, 4 Hall-of-Famers, and a pretty good representation of 20th-century baseball. Ruth has dominated in each season he has played, so it will be interesting to see how he fares against the great Hank Aaron and this fine cast of ballplayers that includes former teammate Earle Combs, Denny Lyons, Larry Doby, Brett Butler, Fred Carroll, and the disreputable Hal Chase.

The Results

The Babe continued his domination against all comers, even with Hammering Hank in the field. He scored almost double the runs of second place Hank Aaron and I guess you are going to win a lot of games if you do that – 26 in a row at one point. Ruth won 130+ games for the third time in as many seasons which left Aaron, Lary Doby, and Denny Lyons to pick up the crumbs in their qualifying finish. The others will have to try their luck in the Round 6 last chance.

Season Highlights

  • Ruth9 led all hitters with a .346 average as various Ruths took the top 7 spots in that category. He also led in RBIs with 192 and missed the Triple Crown because his 62 home runs were only good for a 4th-place tie!
  • Ruth3 had an astonishing 85 round-trippers on the year!
  • Brett Butler99 had 19 triples
  • Ruth9 had a 20 game hitting streak. Aaron5 had a 20 game run of his own.

  • The Ruth team scored 20+ runs 4 times, including a 23-8 shellacking of Hal Chase.
  • Ruth3 had a 6 for 6 game, with 3 HRs and 3 singles.
