The Results

Despite finishing last in team average, Darryl Strawberry cruised to a first-place finish on the strength of his home run domination. Deacon White, Johnny Pesky, and Danny Murphy all managed 80 or more wins on the season to make up the top four finishers. Hall-of-Famer Jimmy Collins and The Big Red Machine’s Dave Concepcion as well as Willie McGee and Rajai Davis are eliminated from the tournament.

Season Highlights

  • Deacon White6 led all hitters with a .335 average. Whites and Peskys were the only hitters to manage .300 or better on the season.
  • White3 had an even 200 hits.
  • Strawberry4 led the league with 39 home runs.
  • Rajai Davis90 had a 23-game hitting streak and 4 other batters managed streaks of at least 20 games.
  • No-Hitters
    None. There were 3 one-hitters.

    HOWEVER: There was one game of particular note. Allie Reynolds1, pitching for Darryl Strawberry, tossed 9 innings of no-hit ball against the Dave Concepcion team. Unfortunately for him, Larry French2 only allowed 3, struck out 15, and carried a shutout through 11 innings. DaveyC was victorious in the bottom of the 11th, 1-0.
